Poshan Maah 2024

In September, India celebrated National Nutrition Month (Poshan Maah). This year was the 7th celebration with the themes of Anaemia, Growth Monitoring, Complementary Feeding, Nutrition & Studies.

TBR’s celebrations reached 30,000 children across Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan! Children from villages, cities, and semi urban/rural areas created posters, costumes, and participated in recipe competitions and educational workshops. Parents, ASHA and ICDS workers, teachers, social workers, pregnant women and new mothers also benefitted from capacity building workshops conducted by the team.

During the month, Vitamin Angels and The Breakfast Revolution also worked together to share easy-to-make, low-cost recipes using indigenous vegetables, grains, and using local preparation styles. The campaign worked across different online platforms, helping thousands of people build a repertoire of food dishes that help reduce anaemia, provide different micro-nutrients, and promote dietary diversity.

At the end of the nutrition month, TBR also organised an online workshop for partners working in health and nutrition.  With 20 organisations and people from 3 countries (India, America, Japan) participating, it was a great opportunity to learn more about reducing child malnutrition through proper complementary feeding, and building dietary diversity effectively from Dr. Raj Bhandari, who was part of the Review Committee of the 2024 Dietary Guidelines for Indians, issued by the National Institute of Nutrition. This was an exciting opportunity for participants to build their knowledge, clear doubts, and create their educational toolkits.
